Explosion Derails Freight Train in Southwest Pakistan, Injuring Seven

(MENAFN) At least seven people were injured after a powerful blast struck a railway line in southwest Pakistan, causing a cargo train to derail, according to reports from officials and local media.

The incident took place in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, where the train was reportedly heading toward a cantonment area when the explosion occurred along the track. Heavy gunfire was also reported in the aftermath of the blast, according to reports.

Medical officials at Civil Hospital Quetta confirmed that the injured were transported to the facility, where emergency protocols were immediately activated due to the severity of the incident.

A provincial government representative stated that security personnel and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene while authorities began investigating the nature and cause of the explosion.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Balochistan, a resource-rich province and a key corridor in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, has experienced longstanding security challenges linked to militant activity. Some separatist groups in the region continue to demand independence, contributing to ongoing instability.
