Nike Plans Workforce Reduction

(MENAFN) The American athletic apparel leader Nike has revealed plans to eliminate approximately 1,400 positions worldwide as part of a reorganization within its Global Operations division. The majority of these job cuts are expected to impact roles related to technology, reflecting a shift in the company’s operational priorities.

In a message addressed to staff, Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy explained that the organization is nearing the “final stretch” of its “Win Now” initiative, a strategy designed to reinforce its overall business framework. He stated, “Across the company, we have been taking deliberate steps to strengthen our foundation, sharpen how we compete, and build a model designed to deliver long-term profitable growth.”

The corporation indicated that the overhaul will influence team configurations, workplace locations, and overall staffing levels in the weeks ahead. These adjustments are intended to streamline processes, enhance speed, and increase operational accuracy.

Alagirisamy acknowledged the human impact of the decision, noting, “These reductions are very hard for the teammates directly affected and for the teams around them, too,” emphasizing the challenges faced by employees during this transition.

Additionally, the company is reorganizing its technology sector to form more efficient, compact teams, reduce its operational footprint, and concentrate efforts around two primary centers: its main office in Beaverton, Oregon, and the Nike India Technology Center.

Further changes will also affect its Air Manufacturing Innovation units located in Beaverton, St. Louis, and Vietnam. Staffing adjustments in these facilities are expected to better match organizational demands while boosting overall productivity.
